Welcome to a new cycling adventure along one of Europe’s most spectacular bike routes: the Loire Valley Cycle Path 🚴‍♂️🌍 In this video, I take you along on a 7-day journey from Sancerre to Saint-Nazaire, following the Loire River through Renaissance castles, historic vineyards, elegant cities and UNESCO heritage landscapes. The official route is around 570 km long, but with additional detours to visit towns, villages and castles, our total distance reached about 600 km. 👉 Official website, where you can download GPX files: https://en.francevelotourisme.com/cyc ... 📍 TRIP STAGES DAY 1 Sancerre → Sully-sur-Loire (90 km) DAY 2 Sully-sur-Loire → Beaugency (85 km) DAY 3 Beaugency → Tours (100 km) DAY 4 Tours → Saumur (85 km) DAY 5 Saumur → La Pointe (Angers) (55 km) DAY 6 La Pointe → Nantes (95 km) DAY 7 Nantes → Saint-Nazaire (60 km) Along the way we visited some of the most iconic places in the Loire Valley: Orléans, Blois, Chaumont-sur-Loire, Amboise, Chenonceau, Tours, Chinon, Saumur, Angers and Nantes, before reaching the Atlantic Ocean. Among all the castles, Chenonceau impressed us the most and was the only one we visited inside. 🚴‍♂️ ROUTE FEATURES • almost entirely on bike paths • flat and suitable for many fitness levels • approx. 90% asphalt / 10% gravel • excellent signage (GPX still recommended) • the Loire River stays beside you for most of the journey 🍷 WINE & LANDSCAPE The Loire Valley is also a world-famous wine region: along the route you cross areas known for Sancerre, Vouvray, Chinon, Saumur and Anjou, surrounded by vineyards and wine cellars carved into tufa, the local limestone rock. 🛌 LOGISTICS & ORGANISATION We travelled independently, carrying our own gear, but sleeping in hotels and B&Bs. I recommend booking trains and accommodation in advance for better prices. 🚆 Transport Departure from Bologna by Frecciarossa with disassembled bikes, overnight in Paris, then direct train to Sancerre. Return by train from Nantes. ⚠️ IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT THE END OF THE ROUTE The official cycle route ends in Saint-Brevin-les-Pins, where you can see the famous “Sea Serpent” sculpture. To return to Nantes you must cross a very long and high bridge: it has a bike lane, but traffic is heavy and wind can be strong. 📅 Best season: spring and especially autumn for colours, perfect temperatures and fewer tourists.
