I traveled across the Loita Hills, Plains, and Forests — a long and tiring journey that became one of the most humbling experiences of my life. 🌍✨ At the end of this journey, I met Chief Oloibon Mokompo, a respected Maasai spiritual leader, cultural elder, and guardian of the Loita Forest, also known as Naimina Enkiyio — the Forest of the Lost Child. Long ago, a young girl herding calves wandered into the forest. The calves eventually returned home, but the girl was never seen again, despite days of searching by her family and warriors. From then on, the forest became known as Naimina Enkiyio — “the Forest of the Lost Child.” 🕊️ Legacy and Leadership After Mbatian’s death, Lenana secured leadership with colonial support, while Senteu retreated to the Loita Hills. Today, Chief Oloibon Mokompo, a descendant of Senteu’s line, continues to uphold this legacy — protecting both Maasai traditions and the Loita Forest.
