Today I'd like to show you step-by-step how I built this 18-meter stream. As the plan shows, the stream flows from the right, flowing near the terrace over rocks in the garden, and to the left into a settling basin. An integrated natural stone transition allows for a seamless transition from the terrace to the lawn. Of course, several water barriers will also be built, simulating small waterfalls with splashing water, creating a pleasant atmosphere. A pump will pump water from a rainwater collection tank to the head of the stream. This tank will be equipped with an overflow so that excess rainwater flows into a trench. This private property has a natural, gently sloping topography, allowing the stream to be perfectly integrated into the surrounding environment. First, the water collection tank is installed, which is the lowest point of the stream. I chose a stable, 800-liter rainwater collection tank. Before placing it in the ground, the tank is fitted with a 45° PVC elbow to drain excess water and sealed with silicone from the inside. The tank is now set in the ground. A layer of gravel underneath provides stability. It's important that the tank is at the correct height and level. Next, another pipe is attached to supply well water. This will ensure the stream has sufficient clean water. The drain diverts the water into a ditch, and the tank is filled with clean water. The stream water must be clean, free of any harmful substances, so as not to cause any harm to residents. Then, the terrain is roughly leveled using an excavator, which saves a lot of manual labor. Now you can imagine where the water will flow. After this, we move to the other end and begin shaping the stream bed. Old pavers are set into the concrete to ensure stable bank edges. A groundwater supply pipe is also installed in this area, allowing the water to flow in a wave-like pattern into a reservoir at the other end of the stream. To ensure the stream looks as natural as possible, the channel is made uneven in width. It's best to install the cable now to avoid complications later when laying it over a liner in the water. For small waterfalls, small trenches are dug. Then, concrete slabs are installed vertically. For stability, it's best to concrete the slabs further. This creates a small retaining wall in areas where the ground is higher than the riverbed. This makes the streambed more stable, and large rocks will prevent subsidence that could lead to water loss. The rainwater reservoir is located much deeper than the surrounding terrain. Old paving stones around the reservoir also protect the soil from subsidence. The pavers placed above will direct the flow toward the center of the reservoir. Now it's time to install the pump hose. It runs along the side edge of the bank, from the reservoir to the source of the stream. Care must be taken to ensure the hose isn't pinched or kinked. The protruding corners at each level are smoothed with a grinder. Also, drops and steps should be smoothed so that the liner lays smoothly and without tension. The tank will be hidden under stones. To prevent them from falling into the tank, this galvanized metal fence was used. To protect the stream liner, the bed is covered with old liner from the pond. Fabric or an old carpet can also be used. The new liner can be laid in one piece. It should not be too tight and have as few wrinkles as possible. A hole in the liner is cut in the center of the tank. Then, a galvanized steel mesh is laid on top. A protective layer of liner is laid on the surface where the natural stones will lie. To build a stone walkway across the pond, flat natural stones are selected and laid in concrete. Then, water should flow between the stones, so I leave enough space between them. The tops of all the stones should be level. Thus, four tiers of the waterfall were laid in concrete. Proper placement of the stones requires experience. It's important to ensure water flows well through them. Once the concrete has set, the remaining stones can be placed. Before installing all the stones, the electrical wiring must be installed. An Aquamax 6000 water pump is placed at the bottom of the container and connected to a hose. Three waterproof lights are then installed to illuminate the stream. All cables are connected to a central control unit, which will then be controlled by a remote control. The liner should not be visible—the stones should cover everything. The selected locations are planted with aquatic plants. Beyond the stream, a brick border is laid with concrete. This elegant border blends harmoniously into the overall design. Weed control fabric is placed between the stream and the border. Holes are cut for ornamental plants. The fabric is filled with pleasing gravel.
