What Makes Thompson Creek PRA a MUST VISIT Outdoor Destination?
What Makes Thompson Creek PRA a MUST VISIT Outdoor Destination? Follow me on a full day exploring the entire Thompson Creek Provincial Recreation Area on the far west side of David Thompson Country. We start with the Thompson Creek Campground which is located 83 km southwest of Nordegg on highway 11. This picturesque recreation area is on the banks of the North Saskatchewan River in the heart of the Rocky Mountains. Thompson Creek campground is well suited for both tents and RV's offering 54 well treed campsites with picnic tables and fire pits. Fire wood is available for a fee. Amenities include water, dry toilets and sheltered camp kitchens with wood burning cook stoves. Access to a scenic trail with views of the Saskatchewan River valley is located across the bridge in the second campground loop. This short hike is well worth the effort. Thompson Creek campground has the same feel as the National Parks but less fees and fewer people. After exploring the campground, we go on a 10km hike towards Mount Cline to discover its valley head wall that creates Thompson Creek Waterfalls. A narrow but fully detached waterfall spanning 60 to 100 metres in one of the most beautiful waterfalls you can find in David Thompson Country!
