Old New York: The Lost City Time Erased | 1900sā1930s š°ļø
š°ļø They Were Here. By 1913 New York had become the largest, most crowded city in the New World ā nearly five million people on a few narrow islands at the mouth of the Hudson. This is the story of that vanished city ā the rising skyline and the bridges, the pushcarts of the Lower East Side, the longshoremen and the ironworkers who built it, the millions who arrived by sea ā told entirely through real photographs. Everyone in these photographs is gone now. But they were here. šø In this archive: The 1913 skyline and the Brooklyn Bridge, the Chrysler crown and the harbor of a thousand piers; Fifth Avenue crowds and Lower East Side pushcarts; the West Side Cowboys, the Fulton Fish Market, the dockworkers and the ironworkers on the bare steel; Labor Day parades, Coney Island at night, and Central Park in the snow. š¤ Why these faces matter: This is not nostalgia for a youth you remember. It's a window into a world that existed before living memory ā preserved, one photograph at a time. From the Bain News Service, the Detroit Publishing Company, Lewis Hine, Paul Strand, and Berenice Abbott's "Changing New York." š Sources & provenance: Every photograph is in the PUBLIC DOMAIN, drawn from the U.S. Library of Congress (Bain & Detroit Publishing collections), the U.S. National Archives, and the New York Public Library (no known copyright restrictions). The source of each image is documented in our archive. The photographs are authentic and unaltered. šµ Music: original score by Lost & Found Archives (composed with Suno). āļø AI: The narration uses a synthetic (AI-generated) voice. The photographs are authentic and unaltered ā none are AI-generated or colorized. š Subscribe to Lost & Found Archives ā Before Living Memory. #TheyWereHere #OldNewYork #NYC #VintageNewYork #1900s #HistoricalPhotos #NewYorkHistory #LewisHine #BereniceAbbott #BlackAndWhite
