Part 3 | 9 Most managers sincerely want to help their teams grow. What gets in the way is not effort, it's design. In this video, we look at the reality of the working manager. Supporting and growing their staff is only part of the job. They carry their own deliverables, requests from the director above them, analysis for the VP above that — and often more direct reports than they've ever had. Covering five, six, seven topics in a single day is routine. The context switching is constant and the workload is depleting. When engagement relies on a manager's memory and attention, it doesn't scale, even for great managers. That's why disengagement is rarely a capability problem. It's a scalability problem, and the answer is helping managers be successful, not asking them to try harder.
