Overcoming the Fear of Building Things on the Farm - Farm Hand's Companion Extra

From time-to-time Pa Mac gets comments or questions related to how long some of the things he builds will last. Since he builds things pretty much the old fashion way, i.e. with not a lot of conventional methods, (no treated lumber or space age materials) some question whether it’s worth building that way at all. These questions and doubts represent represent a sentiment that exists out there among a lot of folks regarding building things on the farm; and it’s a sentiment that can prevent capable people of building things that they could really enjoy and benefit from having. Sometimes new or young farmers get SO carried away with an expectation of permanence that it can be paralyzing, when they try to build things themselves—resulting in many not even attempting the effort. And that’s what Pa Mac address on this Farm Hand’s Companion Extra: Not being afraid or put off by the temporary…especially if it serves your purposes on the small farm or homestead. After all, many things you build or use on the farm don’t have to be PERFECT…they just have to BE. If you’ve built anything modeled after something Pa Mac has built on the Farm Hand’s Companion Show over the years (a pole barn, log building, fence, or whatever) and you’d like to have it featured on an upcoming video by Pa Mac showcasing viewer projects, just send two or three photos of your project (whether completed, or under construction, or both) to [email protected].
