The Boys of Summer
Based on the book of the same title by Roger Kahn, this documentary follows the magic that occurred at Ebbets Field in Brooklyn between 1947 and 1957. It was there and then when the Brooklyn Dodgers - baseball's first racially integrated team - won pennants, a World Series, and the hearts of the nation. But this is more than a baseball story. It's a stirring portrait of family relationships... of fathers who never had time for their children... of extraordinarily gifted young athletes who had to face a bitter dose of adult life - and have emerged with strength and dignity. Meet them as they were in their playing careers, and as they are in 1983 when this was filmed: Duke Snider, Pee Wee Reese, Roy Campanella, Carl Erskine, Clem Labine, Carl Furillo, Joe Black, Preacher Roe, Gil Hodges, Billy Cox, and Jackie Robinson... the Boys of Summer. They were the "bums" that America loved, and this is their story.
