Hello Makkalea!! ❤️ Ella surprised me with one of the most unique Sri Lankan meals I’ve had so far! 🍛 I stopped for lunch at Matey Hut, a small local restaurant known for its authentic Sri Lankan rice & curry. I was extremely hungry, which made the meal even more satisfying, but the food genuinely lived up to the hype. The Kai Kuthal Arisi (hand-pounded rice) had a wonderfully earthy flavor and a slightly chewy texture that paired perfectly with the curries. The dal curry was creamy, mildly spiced, and comforting. The potato curry was soft, flavorful, and infused with aromatic Sri Lankan spices. The mango curry was the biggest surprise, balancing sweetness, tanginess, and gentle spices for a unique taste. The chicken curry was rich, mildly spicy, and packed with deep roasted spice flavors, making it the perfect companion to the rice. To top it all off, the fluffy Sri Lankan omelette paired with special sauce completed an unforgettable lunch. After lunch, I checked into my hostel and met a fellow YouTuber who joined me for the rest of the day. Together, we rode through Ella’s breathtaking hill roads to visit the beautiful Ravana Falls. According to the ancient Ramayana, this area is believed to be connected to King Ravana, who is said to have hidden Sita in a nearby cave after bringing her to Lanka. Whether you’re interested in mythology or simply love nature, Ravana Falls is one of Ella’s must-visit attractions. The journey itself was incredible, with lush tea plantations, misty mountains, and scenic viewpoints making every minute enjoyable. We then headed to the world-famous 9 Arch Bridge, one of Sri Lanka’s most iconic landmarks. Built during the British colonial era using only stone, brick, and cement—without any steel—the bridge is an engineering marvel surrounded by dense jungle. Watching the famous blue train pass over the bridge was the perfect way to end an amazing day in Ella.
