Brad Harmon | Fawn Rescue - June 6 2022 ##Warning## Hard to listen to and watch. Real life.
This fawn started out near Dixie Hwy and ran across Lower hunters with mom right nearby. Several concerned citizens noticed once the baby took shelter on someone's back porch. They tried to catch it, but this baby was fast still. Thanks to the help of a good young man who kept his eye on it and helped me wrangle it I was able to catch it. Unfortunately, there was too much damage and it had been too long. It was dying on the inside and the poor baby was suffering. Mom stayed back even when the baby was crying like it was and that's unusual for me. I've seen mom's clear multiple fences and jump over top of me just to get to a baby when they hear that cry. I think she had resigned herself to the fact that I was helping and that it needed to be done. Thank you to the entire neighborhood for caring about this baby and getting it help. A huge very huge thank you to Jefferson Animal Hospital for being open and willing to help this baby over the rainbow bridge tonight during a thunderstorm. A huge bolt of lightning struck right as I pulled into their clinic, so I decided to name this baby Lightning. They were so kind, comforting, and fast. They let me stay with him every step of the way and help guide him over the rainbow bridge during a rainstorm. Lightning touched several hearts tonight. This was difficult for me because nobody wants to see a baby die. I can't let anything suffer though and I knew instantly when I got my hands on this little one what needed to be done. It's always very difficult to make life and death decisions like this but I'm confident it was the right decision and I'm at peace with it. I got a call while leaving about a pigeon just down the road that fell into someone's pool and was saved. Some people laugh but I see these as signs from God. When you help animals and you look close enough you can actually see these signs everywhere. While one precious soul was being carried to heaven another dropped from the sky guiding my way and telling me it was all going to be ok. Someone knew I needed that sign right then. Peace be with us all tonight and please watch for these babies while brush hogging and mowing this time of year.
