How Elite WRs Win at the Top of Routes

In this drill, we’re working how to win at the top of route with a throw-by technique. This is when the DB has the leverage advantage and is in the way of where we are trying to go.....so we have to move him. We focus on: • Efficient breakdown technique (hex rings) • Sharp 90° square cuts (short and medium distance) • Finishing with a throw-by to get the DB off you (regain leverage) Most WRs lose in this situation because they are not selling the GO route and they are not sudden at the breakpoint. We need to make the DB think we are going somewhere we aren't. This drill cleans that up and teaches you how to drop your weight, cut with intention, and finish through contact. If you want to create space late in routes, this is a must. 🔑 Key Coaching Points: • Sink your hips — chest over knees, nose over toes • Stay tight on your cuts (don’t fade upfield) • Attack vertically • Finish with violence on the throw-by Details matter.
