Jesse Green ~ Nice & Slow 1976 Disco Purrfection Version

Jesse Green was born Locksley Alphonso Green on July 5, 1948 in St James, Jamaica. His fascination with music started at an early age with him learning about appreciating and setting up sound systems. Later on he joined The Pioneers reggae band as a vocalist in the 60's and then went on to join Jimmy Cliff as a drummer in the 70's. He then went solo and had his biggest hit ever with a disco song, "Nice & Slow" that peaked at #3 Disco Billboard in early 1976. The follow up to that smash was "Flip" and that one made it all the way to #17. A third disco single "Come With Me" did not chart in the US but peaked at #29 in the UK. The appeal of "Nice & Slow" comes from the deep bass line, the KC & Sunshine Band-like guitar scratching, the definite breezy sound of the islands in the horns and the George McCrae like dreamy vocals that make this one so catchy. Andrea True's "More More More" shares the same feel in the horns, since that song was recorded in Jamaica with a bare bones music track that remixer Tom Moulton turned into a world wide hit. The horn players were also Jamaica based musicians who's jazzy grasp of the instruments add the same charm in "Nice & Slow". He released two more albums, 1981's "1,2,3 Let's Go" and 1982's "Monopoly" which were both European only releases.
