Since debuting as a teenager in 1981 after signing with Warner Brothers Records, she has released four albums under her own name and provided vocals for a cavalcade of other artists. They include the Brecker Brothers, George Duke, Brownmark, Bobby Brown, Celine Dion, Freddie Jackson, Shanice, Slapbak, Aaron Hall, Ricky Martin, George Benson, Ralph Tresvant, Rod Stewart, Sheena Easton, Jeff Lorber, Whitney Houston, Nancy Wilson, Lionel Richie, Britney Spears, Cher and Christine Aguilera. In keeping with her Minneapolis roots, she brushed with being a Prince protégé and wound up collaborating extensively with Jesse Johnson.
