Tunisia in moto: tra il fascino di Kairouan e la storia di El Jem (Ep. 1)

Tunisia is a land where time seems to have stood still amidst Roman columns, millennia-old minarets, and markets scented with spices. In this first installment of our journey, we immerse ourselves in the country's historical and cultural heart, visiting four unmissable destinations. 1) 🕌 TUNIS – The Gateway to the Orient Our journey begins in the capital, Tunis, a city that elegantly blends modernity and tradition. The beating heart of the city is the Medina, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979, a labyrinth of alleyways where the atmosphere of medieval Islamic antiquity can still be felt. Founded by the Arabs in the 7th century AD, Tunis became one of the most important intellectual and commercial centers in North Africa, reaching its peak under the Hafsid dynasty (13th-16th centuries). 2) 🕌 KAIROUAN – The Holy City of Maghreb Islam Islam's fourth holiest city after Mecca, Medina, and Jerusalem, Kairouan is one of the most sacred and fascinating places on the entire African continent. Founded in 670 AD by the Arab general Uqba ibn Nafi, it was the first great Islamic city in North Africa and the capital of Ifriqiya for over two centuries. Its Great Mosque—the oldest in the Maghreb—is an absolute masterpiece: its columns, partly recovered from Roman and early Christian sites, tell a story of syncretism and extraordinary cultural continuity. The three-tiered minaret, among the oldest in the Islamic world, dominates the city skyline like a spiritual beacon. Kairouan is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site and houses one of the most important collections of hand-knotted carpets in the world. 3) 🏛️ EL DEM – The Colosseum of Africa A few kilometers from the coast, in the middle of the Tunisian plain, stands majestically one of the most astonishing spectacles of world archaeology: the Amphitheater of El Djem. Built around 238 AD, during the late Roman Empire, it could accommodate up to 35,000 spectators and is the third largest Roman amphitheater in the world, after the Colosseum in Rome and the Colosseum in Capua. What is still astonishing today is its extraordinary state of preservation: the arches, underground galleries, and terraces perfectly convey the image of how gladiatorial games must have been held in ancient Thysdrus—the Roman name for the city. 4) 🏙️ SFAX – The Industrious City of the South The last stop on this first episode is Sfax, Tunisia's second largest city in terms of economic and demographic importance. Less touristy but authentic and vibrant, Sfax boasts one of the best-preserved medinas in North Africa, still surrounded by its mighty 9th-century Arab walls. Founded in the Aghlabid era, the city has always been a commercial hub between the Mediterranean and the Sahara. Its port, among the busiest in the region, and its vibrant artisanal culture make it an authentic portrait of Tunisia far from the mass tourism. 🎬 If this video has inspired you to travel, leave a like and subscribe to the channel so you don't miss the next episodes of our trip to Tunisia! #Tunisia #Kairouan #El Jem #Sfax #Tunis #TravelInTunisia #NorthAfrica #UNESCO Heritage ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- My Social Media Instagram:   / defilippismax   Facebook:   / defilippismax   ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Equipment Used: Camera: https://amzn.to/4ankT2i DJI Osmo Pocket 3: https://amzn.to/3SjsPLR Smartphone Stabilizer: https://amzn.to/4xM1YIv (updated) Action Cam: https://amzn.to/43TQpkM Go Pro MAX: https://amzn.to/3Swab3i Drone: https://amzn.to/4gnNWXp Drone: https://amzn.to/4eCUDC7 Directional Microphone: https://amzn.to/4f0lR7c Wireless Microphones: https://amzn.to/4f0Sp0K Artisans AF 27mm F2.8 Lens: https://amzn.to/4f0m4Hw ND Filter: https://amzn.to/4uVEf64 Polarizing Filter: https://amzn.to/4wdCL8m Selfie Stick: https://amzn.to/4w60AP7
