"Sporting Cristal has reached an agreement in principle to sign Michael Hoyos," he posted on the afternoon of Friday, July 3. The journalist also indicated the length of the contract for the American-born player with the Peruvian team. "He arrives as a free agent after terminating his contract with Newell's and will sign a two-year deal." Michael Hoyos would arrive at Sporting Cristal after a stint with limited playing time at Newell's Old Boys. The striker participated in only nine matches and scored one goal during his time with the Argentine club. His last appearance was on March 21st against Gimnasia Mendoza, a match in which he came on as a substitute. After that game, he remained a substitute and was left out of the squad twice.
