200 Kühe, eine Familie, ein Hof: Landwirtschaft mit Herz | Hofgeschichten (377) | NDR
You can find these and other farm stories in the ARD Mediathek (ARD Media Library): https://1.ard.de/Hofgeschichten?yt=nd... Urte Schulz-Möllgaard and Jörg Schulz from the Hahnenkamp farm are the "newcomers" in the "Farm Stories" series. They live with their three children in the small village of Wobbenbüll, very close to the North Sea. In 2019, they traded their office jobs for farm work. They have 200 dairy cows and 150 young cattle. Jörg and Urte also farm 200 hectares of land, primarily for arable farming and grassland for the cows. They make it clear that times are tough right now, but that they aren't thinking of giving up. In Hamburg-Moorburg, it's time for a big sorting session with the cattle. Jürgen Ecks and his son Max want to drive their cattle to the summer pasture today. First, they plan to separate four young steers from the herd and take them to a separate pasture. This isn't without its dangers, as the animals can kick. Bull Bernie, in particular, poses a risk. That's why Isa Ecks prefers to keep a safe distance. However, she can delegate and offer commentary from a safe distance. Poultry breeder Christine Bremer has traveled from Kölau in Lower Saxony to the plant market at the Kiekeberg Open-Air Museum. She doesn't intend to sell anything, but rather to use the interaction with visitors to promote her business and improve her online presence. This proves to be quite a challenge, as the visitors are there for the plants, not to learn about eggs. At the Thudthof farm in the Harz foothills, the outdoor season is beginning. The cattle are being moved to pasture. It's a first for the calves, as they were all born in the barn within the last three months. For the transport, Steffen Thudt and his partner Jessica Lange have to separate the calves from their mothers. This causes quite a stir in the barn. For the mother cows, getting into the livestock trailer isn't new, but that doesn't mean the journey to the pasture will go smoothly. ___________________________________________________ Editors: Thomas Kensy and Joachim Grimm We at NDR auf’m Land take you to the countryside.
