Een jaar later: De jongeren op COA-locatie Legmeer

Over a year ago, the COA shelter opened at the Legmeer industrial estate. This location houses 60 unaccompanied minors. How are the residents doing now? Two of them, Achmed and Fawaz, give us a glimpse behind the scenes. Ahmed and Fawaz are truly exceptional, according to a COA counselor. Both are ambitious and working very hard to build their lives here. They both attend NOVA College to learn our language and traditions, among other things. Foaz has since transferred from the transition class to the regular vocational education program (MBO). He wants to become an electrician. Ahmed is still in the transition class, and we asked his mentor about his progress. Future is uncertain The uncertainty about obtaining a residence permit is causing a lot of stress. Will Ahmed and Fawaz be allowed to stay in the Netherlands, or will they have to return to Syria? If the answer is yes, the next question immediately arises: "Where in the Netherlands will they end up?" Achmed and Fawaz would prefer to stay in Amstelveen. They are used to it now and would find it very difficult to have to start all over again.
