Pe Benito preparing for battle of unbeatens at Zuffa 8

Unbeaten lightweight boxer Jaybrio Pe Benito returns to the ring Sunday when he faces fellow undefeated fighter Tony Hirsch Jr. on the preliminary card of Zuffa Boxing 8 at The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas. Pe Benito, a native of Ewa Beach, enters the bout riding the momentum of the most significant victory of his professional career, a knockout win in his Zuffa Boxing debut that elevated his profile on the national stage. Despite the added attention, the 30-year-old remains focused on his long-term goal of winning a championship and says his success has come from maintaining a strong work ethic away from the spotlight. “For me, that’s always been my greatest asset, just being able to work in the dark and keep staying focused,” Pe Benito said. With his stock rising, Pe Benito believes now is the time to increase his commitment rather than become comfortable with recent success. “This is the time to not relax and just keep pushing harder than I ever did before,” he said. “This is the moment where I just keep pushing and stay focused. That’s the hardest thing because, of course, with all the attention, you feel like you can take your foot off the gas. But that’s where most people mess up. “I’ve studied a lot of boxers and fighters, and once you get comfortable, that’s their downfall. My thing is to stay uncomfortable, keep putting in the work and stay dedicated. The job is not finished until I retire. We’re just going to keep pushing, keep getting wins and keep showing everybody what I’m made of.” The Zuffa Boxing 8 preliminary card begins at 11 a.m. Hawaii time Sunday and will be streamed on Paramount+.
