How To Set Up For Your Lope Departure

In this video, I show you how to walk along and move the hip. Why is this important? It sets up your horse to step off into the correct lead every time. The lead departure begins with the hindquarters, not the front foot....Drive from behind by moving the hip. It also teaches you to move his body. To begin....walk in a straight line, pick up and soften your horse, tip his nose in the direction of your desired lead, slide your leg back to the back cinch, move the hip and walk on..Do not lope until you ask him to lope with the kiss, which is your cue... This teaches you to move your horses hip. correct is softening his face to the direction of the lead you want to pick up, moving the hip in the same direction and walking on. This helps you and your horse to wait and be patient and not anticipate the lead departure. This exercise is more for you than for your horse. It teaches you to move the hip and put his nose on the circle, the hip on the circle and not loping off. The cue is the KISS to lope off, not before you ask. When you ask for his nose on the circle, his hip on the circle and KISS, that's when he's to pick up his lope. Moving his body parts is for you to learn what it takes to ask for the lope departure.
