Keighley & Worth Valley Railway 'Steam Gala' 2026 (Full Edit)
Keighley & Worth Valley Railway 'Steam Gala' 2026 Full Edit. All footage filmed on Saturday 21st & Sunday 22nd March 2026. The Keighley & Worth Valley Railway once again delivered a standout event with its annual Steam Gala, held from 19th–22nd March. Across four action-packed days, the Worth Valley echoed to the sound of intensive steam operation, with an impressive roster of nine locomotives in service, three of which were visiting engines. Leading the visiting line-up was the magnificent GWR ‘Castle’ class No. 5029 "Nunney Castle", appearing courtesy of Locomotive Services Limited. Constructed at Swindon Works in 1934, the locomotive returned to the gala circuit for only its second appearance following the completion of a major overhaul last year. Joining the 'Castle' was fellow LSL stablemate SR 'West Country' No. 34046 "Braunton", built at Brighton Works in 1946 to a desgin by Oliver Bulleid. Completing the visiting trio was LMS 'Black Five' No. 45407 “The Lancashire Fusilier”, appearing courtesy of Riley & Son (E) Ltd. Built in 1937, the Black Five class was designed as the ultimate mixed-traffic locomotive. Unusually, due to mainline commitments the loco arrived on the railway facing north allowing for some shots not normally possible. An intensive timetable was put in place across the action-packed weekend, featuring a wide variety of attractions. Each day began with an early morning full-line goods service, with highlights including 34046 "Braunton" on Thursday and 5029 "Nunney Castle" on Sunday. The timetable also incorporated several double-headed workings, alongside frequent shuttle services between Keighley, Ingrow West, and Damems. As is now customary at KWVR galas, an impressive selection of vintage carriages made an appearance. On Friday and Saturday, the shuttle services were formed of the two Metropolitan coaches and the SR Chatham coach. On the remaining days, these were supplemented by a trio of L&Y coaches to create a secondary full-line set. Elsewhere, Oakworth played host to demonstrations by the Grafton steam crane. Meanwhile, on Sunday, “Dora” performed shunting demonstrations at Keighley. Editing this video led to an interesting format as both early morning and evening scenes are captured at Haworth Sheds. Which, when the clips are put in a rough time order, gives a complete overview of what would be a full day in the Worth Valley, starting with the engines being prepared in the morning and being disposed in the evening. Albeit with clips from both the Saturday & Sunday are merged together to demonstrate the different locomotive allocations between the two days.
