Someone Rewrote the Enuma Elish and Called It Exodus
What if the Exodus was never an original story? Victor joins Derek Lambert (MythVision Podcast) to lay out one of the most striking parallel structures in ancient literature: the biblical Exodus and the Babylonian creation epic, the Enuma Elish. This is not a handful of vague similarities. This is thirteen matching scenes unfolding in the same narrative sequence. A ruling power threatened by a growing population. An order to destroy the young. A flight to safety. A return with a divine commission. A council assembly. Failed negotiations with the enemy. A battle at sea involving wind and the splitting of water. The enemy army overwhelmed and destroyed. A victory song. Tablets of authority received. A temple built as a replica of the heavenly realm. A priesthood established with robes, crowns, and anointing. A creation account woven into the aftermath. Scene after scene, the Exodus narrative follows the structural blueprint of the Enuma Elish. The Babylonian text is over a thousand years older. The parallels are not limited to vague themes. They appear in the same order, serving the same narrative functions, with the same dramatic beats. Marduk sends winds and splits the watery body of Tiamat. Yahweh sends an east wind and splits the sea. Marduk's enemies lose their nerve and flee. Pharaoh's army panics and retreats. Marduk rests and surveys the corpse. Israel sees the Egyptians dead on the shore. Marduk receives the Tablet of Destinies and fastens it to his chest. Moses receives the tablets of the law on the mountain. Marduk's followers build him a temple as a replica of the heavens. Moses builds the tabernacle according to the pattern shown on the mountain. And here is what makes this even more striking. The passages that are missing from Exodus, the elements that don't seem to match, actually survive in other biblical texts. Habakkuk 3 describes Yahweh riding with horses through the sea with a bow, arrows, and a spear, exactly like Marduk mounts his chariot with weapons. Isaiah 51 mentions Rahab and a dragon in connection with making a way through the sea. Isaiah 27 names Leviathan in connection with a day of the east wind. The dragon that Marduk fights was once part of the Exodus story. The other biblical texts preserved what the Exodus narrative edited out. This is a scene-by-scene walkthrough with the texts side by side. Every parallel is sourced from the primary texts. You can check every line yourself. If you thought the Exodus was unlike anything else in the ancient world, this conversation will change that. ============================ FIND ALL LINKS HERE 👉 https://linktr.ee/mythvision ============================ RECOMMENDED ONLINE COURSES HERE 👉👉 Checkout MVP Courses to find new and upcoming online courses: https://mvp-courses.com/ Sign up for Dr. James Tabor’s Course, “The Quest for the Historical Paul: Apostle or Apostate?” - - https://mythvisionpodcast.com/histori...
