Inside a Quintessential East Village Loft Designed for an Artist & Musician | Open House Tour

Step inside a beautifully layered East Village loft designed by Josh Evan Goldfarb & Michael Edward Moirano, principals of the New York and Miami-based architecture and interior design firm Evan Edward. Created as a New York City pied à terre for a creative couple (one an artist and the other a musician), the project celebrates the authenticity of a classic loft while introducing a thoughtful mix of color, texture, and curated pieces. Original exposed brick walls and timber rafters provide the foundation for a home that feels deeply personal and effortlessly livable. The designers organized the expansive open plan around a striking rosewood dining table by Andrianna Shamaris, pairing it with existing chairs whose dark finish highlights the natural variation in the wood. Throughout the loft, furniture and lighting work together to create distinct moments, from a reupholstered vintage sectional and sculptural organic coffee table to a custom lighting narrative inspired by the life cycle of a bird. Meanwhile, in the music room, oversized furry chairs, guitars, and a large screen create a relaxed space designed around the homeowner's passion for music. Curved forms and organic shapes repeat throughout the loft, creating visual continuity while preserving an easy sense of flow. Moreover, to provide a sense of privacy without sacrificing openness, the designers incorporated an antique door that was sourced in New Orleans to introduce a layer of history and patina before leading into the primary bedroom. Inside that space, a palette of blues, purples, golds, and creams softens the space, while velvet textiles, drapery, and mismatched lamps contribute to an atmosphere that feels collected rather than prescribed. From carefully restored architectural details to bold furnishings and thoughtful storytelling through design, this East Village home offers a fresh interpretation of the quintessential New York loft.
