His cry, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me,” becomes a powerful confession of faith and a model of persistent prayer. Though the crowd tries to silence him, Bartimaeus cries out all the more, and Jesus stops for him. This reflection invites us to see that blindness is not only physical; prejudice, ambition, passion, fear, and stubbornness can darken the eyes of the heart.
