Beach Cover Up | Terry Towelling Dress - Beginner Friendly Sewing Tutorial
I saw an photo of a towel dress in a vogue fashion magazine from the 60s and really wanted one just like it but couldn’t find anything like it. So I made a few adjustments and created a pattern so you and I can be comfy and cute after swimming. 🌞🧵 In this beginner-friendly sewing tutorial, I’ll show you step by step how to turn a simple beach towel (approx. 1m x 1.5 m) into a stylish towel dress – perfect for the beach, pool, or lounging around in summer. (You can of course use 2 smaller towels or buy about 1 .8m of towel fabric) - please always make sure you prewash the fabric. Remember to mirror the front piece if you don't cut the fabric on fold! And here's the twist: we’re using a lot of bias tape! So by the end of this video, you’ll basically be a bias tape pro 😄 I’m teaching you everything as a professional seamstress, and this project is totally beginner-friendly – just your towel, bias tape, and a bit of summer sewing fun! Here is everything you need: Approx. 1.8m of towel fabric (70in) or a beach towel (approx. 1m x 1.8m 39in x 71in or bigger) Approx. 4m (157in) of bias tape (that’s enough for all sizes so you don’t need to squeeze) + approx. a minimum of 0.6m (24in) more per strap to tie in the back. A total of 5m (197in) should be enough for most sizes if you are making the bigger sizes and/or want your straps extra long get a little more to comfortably have enough… If you are not using the finished edge of the towel for a finished seam at the bottom, overlock/zigzag the edge, fold your preferred seam allowance up and sew along the edge. The pattern is available on my website: https://www.sundaycafe.ch/shop Let me know if you have any questions – and if you make your own towel dress, I’d love to see it!
