Propagation, Cultivation, and Care of Spring Bulb Canna - Digging Time and Method, Storage, Planting, etc. Dig the stems 10cm above the ground around October 20th (before frost). After digging, shake off the soil, dry in the shade, and store in a location with a temperature range of 5 to 10°C (5 to 10°F). Never split the bulbs. Store them intact and divide them before planting in spring. Dig a hole 30cm deep and wide on all sides, cover with another 10cm of soil, and plant three or so evenly in all directions. Cover with about 20cm of soil so that the entire 30cm depth will eventually become bulbs. Shallow planting will expose the bulbs and prevent proper rhizome formation. by Dr. Lee Moon-won
