Robert Bober, the director, put himself on the "children's side" to observe them live, and to have them say things they would not readily confide to adults. Robert Bober himself tried an experiment: he asked an actor, disguised as a semi-homeless person, to set up in front of schools to sell toys at very low prices, and filmed the reactions of the children and those of the adults. In a classroom, he collected accounts from two boys about the CRS (riot police) profession, and in the playground, he observed the children fighting. How do children perceive freedom, the authority of adults, and that of their parents? This is what he attempted to find out by interviewing a class from Saint-Mandé who had just returned from a three-week field trip, then by interviewing three children from this class, and then their parents.
