Poland has purchased forty-eight FA-50 aircraft: twelve FA-50GFs and thirty-six final FA-50PLs. The first aircraft arrived quickly, but the most important version is still ahead of us. In this article, I examine what Poland actually purchased, how much the FA-50 program cost, how the FA-50GF differs from the FA-50PL, when the final aircraft are expected to arrive in Poland, and what real-world capabilities the Polish version can offer. We discuss the PhantomStrike AESA radar, AMRAAM, AIM-9X, Link 16 missiles, the Sniper ATP pod, a helmet-mounted targeting system, an air-to-air refueling probe, simulators, service in Poland, and precision weapons such as the JDAM, GBU-12, and Maverick. The example of the Philippines is also important, as FA-50PHs were used in combat during the Marawi operation. This demonstrates that the FA-50 doesn't have to be just a trainer. In the right configuration, it can have specific applications: on-duty, patrolling airspace, countering larger drones, supporting air defense systems, and some strike missions. This isn't a story about the FA-50PL replacing the F-16. It won't.
