MSFS 2024 VR: The Setup Nobody Explains (Quest 3). Intro to Virtual Reality.

Virtual reality in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 should be incredible — but for many people, it’s confusing, unstable, and frustrating. Over Christmas I finally sat down and worked through it properly, from crashes and black bars to blurry cockpits and GPU warnings. This video isn’t a benchmark or a “best settings” list — it’s what actually worked for me using a Quest 3 and PC-VR. If you’re new to VR, tried it and bounced off it, or just want MSFS 2024 to feel calm and immersive rather than stressful, this video is for you. I cover the different VR pipelines, wired vs wireless, why Heathrow is the ultimate stress test, and how I finally got VR to click. 00:00 – Why I Came Back to VR 01:35 – What VR Actually Is (Standalone vs PC-VR) 02:55 – Why VR in MSFS Feels So Confusing 04:15 – Heathrow as a Stress Test 04:52 – The Two VR Pipelines Explained 06:52 – Wired vs Wireless (The Surprise) 07:45 – High vs Ultra: The Reality Check 09:20 – What Actually Fixed Things 10:00 – The GPU Myth 10:58 – The Moment VR Clicked 11:18 – Advice for Getting Into VR 13:00 – Final Thoughts & Next Steps Meta Horizon Link (PC app) Required to initially pair the Quest headset with your PC Supports USB-3 cable or wireless Wireless works best if your PC is connected to the router by Ethernet Download: https://www.meta.com/quest/setup/ Virtual Desktop (Wireless PC-VR) App installed inside the headset Companion streamer app runs on the PC Wireless only — but can deliver excellent clarity with a good Wi-Fi 6 router Virtual Desktop site: https://www.vrdesktop.net/ OpenXR Toolkit (important note) I mention OpenXR because it’s widely recommended - but in my setup: Running OpenXR Toolkit in the background conflicted with Virtual Desktop and caused instability. (Most likely my approach - it looks like a great tool but be aware of asking OpenXR to layer over what Remote Desktop can do you you already). I will return to this later. If you’re using Virtual Desktop, I recommend: Let Virtual Desktop handle resolution and reprojection OpenXR Toolkit (for reference): https://mbucchia.github.io/OpenXR-Too...
