The BEST historic sites in ST. AUGUSTINE!

It’s our last day exploring St. Augustine so we’re diving more into the history of the city! We ventured to the Castillo de San Marcos which is the oldest masonry fortress in the continental US built by the Spanish to protect the city between 1672 and 1695. It has a rich history, having been controlled by Spain, Britain, and the U.S. You’re able to explore both inside and outside the fort, see historic weapons demonstrations, and see if you can find some “secret” passageways. 🤫 After our visit to the Castillo we walked across the street to the historic downtown area and explored the shops along St. George Street which is a pedestrian-only street featuring the oldest wooden schoolhouse which dates back to 1715. 👀 We also walked along Aviles Street which is renowned as the oldest continuously used street in the US dating back to the early 1600s. Here, we stumbled upon the Spanish Military Hospital Museum where we got a private tour of a reconstructed 18th-century hospital showcasing colonial medical practices.
