Ireland: The Road Ahead | Dubbed Gerry Adams on Ceasefire and Broadcasting Ban | The Troubles (1994)

In September 1994, ITN broadcast 'Ireland: The Road Ahead', a special live programme analysing the turbulent road between the Downing Street Declaration of December 1993 and the mutual agreement of a ceasefire between the IRA and loyalist paramilitary groups in August 1994. Freshly digitised this week, this broadcast showcases a bizarre chapter during the Troubles in which, between 1988 and 1994, a governmental broadcasting ban prevented senior figures from Sinn Féin from speaking on British airwaves. As a result, when Gerry Adams was interviewed in this live special, his voice was dubbed in real time by a voice actor. Adam's views on the broadcasting ban can be heard in an exclusive off-camera recording around 20 minutes into the programme. #NorthernIreland #Ireland #TheTroubles #Troubles #GerryAdams #SinnFein #IRA #ITNArchive #Ceasefire #Conflict #UKHistory #History To search the ITN Archive collection on Getty Images, follow the link below: https://www.gettyimages.co.uk/footage... 🎥 Subscribe to our YouTube channel (tap the bell icon and stay up to date with all the latest ITN Archive videos!) -    / @frontlinebyitn   🎥 Follow us on Twitter -   / itnarchive   🎥 Like us on Facebook -   / itnarchiveitnp   🎥 Check out our TikTok -   / itnarchive1955
