The Manila Cathedral Open House 2026

For Independence Day, the Manila Cathedral in Intramuros, Manila, hosted a special open house allowing free public access to restricted areas like the cathedral crypt, choir loft, and roof deck. Visitors were granted free entry to the cathedral’s subterranean crypt (the resting place of deceased Archbishops), the choir loft, and the roof deck. We also had the chance to see the famous Pipe Organ, the largest church organ in Southeast Asia. There is also a Historical Exhibition entitled "Manila in Print" that was staged at the St. Joseph Chapel Area, displaying rare antique maps, prints, and visual archives (which remain available to view through June 14). The most important part is the access to the main altar featuring the image of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Immaculate Conception and the crypt that holds the mortal remains of Archbishops Michael J. O'Doherty, Gabriel M. Reyes, Cardinal Rufino J. Santos, and Cardinal Jaime L. Sin It also features a striking three-subject mosaic by Marcello Avenali, depicting the Lord's agony, the meeting of Mary and Jesus, and the Crucifixion.
