Henry IV of Castile, known as "the Impotent," was King of Castile from 1454 to 1474, belonging to the Trastámara dynasty. His reign was marked by noble conflicts, a loss of royal authority, an economic crisis, and challenges to his legitimacy due to rumors about his physical incapacity and the paternity of his daughter, Joanna la Beltraneja. He favored certain nobles and favorites, which generated opposition from much of the nobility. He attempted to maintain peace with Portugal and Aragon through marriage alliances, but his lack of firmness weakened the monarchy.
