When you walk into a Padang restaurant, the staff will usually bring out tons of dishes right away — things like different curries, stewed meats, fried chicken, beef rendang, coconut stewed veggies, fried fish, omelets, and more. You just pick what you want to eat, and in the end, they only charge you for the dishes you actually touched. Padang food is rich, bold, and often spicy, using tons of spices and coconut milk to create that deep, unforgettable flavor that Sumatra cuisine is famous for. The beef rendang, in particular, is slow-cooked for hours until it’s super tender and packed with flavor — definitely a must-try!
