Episode 26: Gung Ho!

The return of Jason's "competitive" character trait is shamed by every character that it's not aimed at. The crux of this episode is that working in unison should overcome a competitive nature, but narratively there's no pay off for the sentiment. And though the unmorphed intro and outro trying to make us root against Jason in some ways and is longer than in other episodes- making this episode feel much longer than it should, goodness does exist. The fight choreography here is smooth and incorporates the groups that are fighting really well. The shorts are 90s style short (longer than 80s but still pretty good). And Bulk and Skull, while being comedic foibles, aren't as terrible in the bullying department. They take on an early WWF tone and it's all just kind of a choice. The explanation of the super putties still doesn't explain the onyx putties that we've seen in previous fights unmentioned. It feels very reminiscent of previous episodes of #powerrangers and also looks forward to whole seasons of episodes where unmorphed parts are about as long as they are here. Is it successful though? I'm not convinced.
