Amidst the ringing of bells, prayers, and the profound silence of faith, the town of Tuxpan experiences one of the most moving and anticipated moments of its religious festivities: the traditional Descent of the Lord of Forgiveness. An event steeped in history, devotion, and emotion, where the Holy Christ is brought down from his altar to draw closer to his people, the same people who for over 450 years have kept alive a faith passed down from generation to generation. The image of the Lord of Forgiveness, crafted from cornstalks using the ancient artisanal technique known as Tatzingui, comes from Pátzcuaro, Michoacán. After the devastating earthquake of March 25, 1806, the inhabitants of Tuxpan proclaimed him protector and defender of the town against earthquakes and all calamities, vowing to hold a festival in his honor every year as an expression of gratitude and faith. Today, that promise remains alive.
