"There will be no more nuts!" A frosty night in Turkey cut down hazelnut blossoms, wiping out a third of the country's harvest. Since Turkey accounts for most of the world's supply, the market reacted with a price explosion. But how is it possible that just a year later we are facing a collapse in the price of the raw material and a gigantic surplus that traders don't know what to do with? In his latest article, Marcin Wenus exposes the ruthless laws of the market pendulum. We show why fear and panic are the worst investment advisors. We explain how, instead of enriching Turkish farmers, record hazelnut prices ultimately destroyed demand – confectionery factories simply began to avoid the expensive raw material.
