Before insulating or changing the heating system, it's essential to analyze the building structure, water management, the land, the building's structure, and its uses. The renovation must follow a logical order: first, the building is watertight, then airtight, followed by interior finishing and equipment, and finally, and only then, the thermal aspects (heating, air conditioning, etc.). This, of course, requires integrating these final stages into the preliminary work, but it should never be considered, prescribed, or, above all, carried out without having addressed the preceding issues. In other words, the concern for thermal comfort is important and legitimate, and this comfort achieved with lower energy consumption is also valuable. However, beyond performance, what matters is durability, longevity, and health—not only in terms of what will be done during a renovation or improvement project, but more broadly in terms of the relationship between the dwelling and its inhabitants, and in preserving the integrity of the building.
