Abruzzo: borghi dimenticati, l'Oratorio di Bominaco e le Gole di Celano (Ep. 04)

Subtitles available in English 🇬🇧. Descending from the peaks of Gran Sasso, our journey in Abruzzo ventures into a territory suspended between deep wounds and silent rebirths. We explore the Navelli plain, an enchanted village and the home of L'Aquila DOP saffron, where medieval alleys alternate with abandoned stone backdrops awaiting redemption. The journey touches upon the region's incredible sacred heritage: the millennial solemnity of the Bominaco abbey complex and the Oratory of San Pellegrino, an extraordinary thirteenth-century treasure trove of Gothic frescoes that predate Giotto by a century and a half. We then head into the Sirente Velino Natural Park, discovering the intact fourteenth-century house-workshops of Fontecchio, the shattered facades of Fossa and Rocca di Mezzo, the historic set chosen by Federico Fellini for his masterpiece "La Strada". The journey concludes in Marsica, before the majestic Piccolomini Castle of Celano, before plunging into the rocky embrace of its famous gorges, a monumental canyon where vertical walls touch the sky and voices reverberate like in a stone cathedral. 🏛️🌿 Watch the full episode on the ‘Un reporter in valigia’ YouTube channel (subtitles available).
