How to ACTUALLY learn to play Magic: The Gathering as a beginner

So you want to play magic the gathering. Maybe a friend showed you some cool cards, or you saw some of the really cool Marvel Cards revealed in the last few days. You start watching videos to learn the cards and how to play and you listen to people talking about a card being good in standard or the 99 or other limited formats. If you are trying to sort out that confusion you have to understand what it means to blink a card, or what haste or vigilance means. It’s confusion and overwhelming! That is exactly the position I was in 2 months ago when my friend showed me some TMNT cards. (I'm a big Ninja Turtles fan).
