Crossing the Andes from Argentina to Chile 🇦🇷🇨🇱 | Cruce Andino

What’s the most scenic way to travel from Argentina to Chile? In this video, we take on the Cruce Andino, an unforgettable journey across the Andes Mountains that combines buses, boats, and border crossings through some of Patagonia’s most spectacular landscapes! Starting in Bariloche, Argentina, we begin the adventure early in the morning at the Cruce Andino offices on Mitre Street before driving to Puerto Pañuelo to board our first boat of the day. From there, we sailed across Lake Nahuel Huapi through the scenic Blest Arm inside Nahuel Huapi National Park, Argentina’s oldest national park. After arriving at Port Blest, we stopped for lunch and explored the surrounding peninsula where the Frías River meets Lake Nahuel Huapi. Then the journey continued with a short bus ride to Port Alegre, where we crossed the striking Lake Frías, famous for its milky turquoise colour caused by glacial sediments from Mount Tronador. Next came the international border crossing into Chile, where we travel through lush Valdivian rainforest and enjoy views of Mount Tronador before reaching the small village of Peulla inside Vicente Pérez Rosales National Park. We decided to break up the journey and stay overnight at Hotel Natura Patagonia, located on the shores of Lake Todos los Santos (though you can do this entire Andean crossing in one day!). After dinner and a restful night, we explored the village of Peulla, visited a nearby waterfall, and even took a safari-style excursion. The day continued with the most scenic boat ride of the entire trip: a 1-hour and 45-minute catamaran crossing of Lake Todos los Santos, where we spotted spectacular volcanoes, including Osorno Volcano and Puntiagudo Volcano. Finally, after one last bus ride, we arrived in Puerto Varas, Chile, officially completing the Andean Crossing. All together, the journey included 4 buses, 3 boats, and 2 countries, offering one of the most unique and beautiful ways to cross the Andes Mountains!
