Sunflower Waltz (Susanne Ortner)

I composed this little musette in Southern France and Ireland, in the summer of 2025. The A-section was inspired by the beautiful sunflower fields surrounding the artist residency Pottery Farm Gallery, where I spent some productive and relaxing days. The rest came to me at an old mill somewhere in Ireland, close to Sligo. I was sitting in the kitchen of my dear friend Sarah Brecht, who cooked a lavish meal, while I was playing clarinet, and coming up with the rest of this piece. What a joy to record this little video in my backyard in New Orleans, with the wonderful Django-style Israeli-French guitarist Duved Dunayevski, who was visiting Nola, and New Orleans based musicians Molly Reeves, and Zach Valentin. I hope you enjoy this original piece of mine!
