Crossing the Chain of Rocks Bridge
The Chain of Rocks Bridge carried Route 66 across the Mississippi River from 1929 until it closed in 1970. It was abandoned for decades before restoration took place in the late 90s to make it a pedestrian crossing. On special occasions, it's re-opened to car traffic!
