WIEDERAUFBAU EIFELSTRECKE: Frühjahr 2026 - Teil 4

In the fourth part of our documentary, we begin at Dahlem station and travel to Kall. Dahlem Station On the double-track line in front of Dahlem station, all the masts for the future overhead lines have been installed. The tracks cross the level crossing at the entrance to the town. This crossing has now been renovated. Only a few finishing touches remain. The platforms and the station area are tidy and inviting. A lot has been accomplished here. The flashing light illuminates, and the bell at the new level crossing can be heard. The regional train from Trier towards Cologne is approaching. We waited until Holy Week to publish the fourth part of our documentary. Starting this Monday, regional trains will once again run beyond Jünkerath to Cologne. We wanted to include rolling stock in the footage for this documentary, and we hope this is acceptable. Dahlem – Schmidtheim The preparations for electrification are clearly visible on the double-track section between Dahlem and Schmidtheim. The overhead line masts are in place on both sides of the track, and the supply lines have been laid. The second track ends shortly before Schmidtheim station. Incidentally, at 550 meters, Schmidtheim is the highest point on the Eifel Railway. Schmidtheim Station At Schmidtheim station, the now privately owned station building and the pedestrian crossing barriers are the dominant features. Regional trains from both directions provide access to Cologne and Trier. Blankenheim (Wald) Station New bicycle lockers, a new shelter, and a new ticket machine have been installed at Blankenheim Wald station. Access to the platforms is open. The flooded underpass is passable again, although traces of water have not completely disappeared. Modern displays and shelters are located on the platforms. Normal operations have resumed at Blankenheim Wald station. The storage area has been cleared, and the overhead line masts have been removed and installed along the track. Nettersheim Station We arrived in Nettersheim on the regional train from Cologne. The station's distinguishing features are its numerous parking spaces and the characteristic pedestrian overpass. Here, too, practical functionality prevails. The level crossing is located just beyond the station in the direction of Urft. It, too, has been renovated and is operational. Urft-Steinfeld Station In Urft, the railway world is also back in order. The platform has been rebuilt and a new shelter erected. The level crossing has been renovated and is in operation. Kall Station Today concludes our four-part documentary on the reconstruction of the Eifel Railway from Ehrang to Kall in spring 2026. This concludes our examination of the section of the line that was particularly affected by the flooding in July 2021. The conclusion: Much has already been achieved, but much remains to be done. Electrification, especially in the northern section, is already well advanced. Further work will initially be carried out on weekends and at night. This should result in less disruption for passengers. The complete electrification of the Eifel line is planned for the end of 2028. Until then, there will be further disruptions. Passengers will therefore need to be patient. Thank you for your interest.
