'Fosca', de Inma Pelegrín, premio Lumen de Novela 2025

The winning novel of the 3rd Lumen Novel Prize is Fosca, by Inma Pelegrín. The jury, composed of writers Ángeles González-Sinde, Elena Medel, and Clara Obligado, Lola Larumbe, director of the Rafael Alberti bookstore (Madrid), and María Fasce, literary director of Lumen, declared the novel the winner by a majority vote and emphasized: "A boy gifted with special sensitivity must learn to defend himself in a claustrophobic and hostile environment where tenderness is nevertheless possible. Language is another character in this anti-coming-of-age novel with elements of a rural thriller and echoes ranging from Ana María Matute to Jesús Carrasco. A story to be read with the senses and the heart." In bookstores on September 25. --- The Lumen imprint, founded in Barcelona in 1960 by Esther Tusquets, was a pioneer in highlighting literature written by women. The result of this objective was the launch of the Lumen Women's Prize from 1994 to 1999, conceived as an award to discover literary talent among women. Heir to this initiative, the Lumen Novel Prize continues in 2025 with the commitment to foster creativity and give prominence to women writers throughout the Spanish-language world. In this third edition, which will be awarded on June 10 at 12:00 p.m. at the José Ortega y Gasset-Gregorio Marañón Foundation, 402 manuscripts were received from Argentina (79), Colombia (40), Chile (16), Spain (192), the United States (12), Mexico (46), Peru (6), and Uruguay (11). According to the call for submissions, the deadline for submissions was March 31, 2025.
