LULA DETONA PRIVATIZAÇÕES DE ESTATAIS: "QUERIA QUE UM GÊNIO ME EXPLICASSE"

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva criticized the privatization of projects undertaken by Petrobras, such as the fertilizer production segment. The statement was made during the reopening of the Nitrogen Fertilizer Unit III (UFN-III) in Três Lagoas (MS). The company is one of the state-owned company's new strategic segments aimed at reducing Brazil's external dependence on these products. Lula questioned what benefits the country gained from the privatization of strategic sectors, such as gas. He referred to the sale of Liquigás, one of Brazil's main distributors of cooking gas with a strong presence in the residential, commercial, and industrial markets. "What did Brazil gain when they sold Liquigás? A company that I had bought so that Petrobras could participate in the regulation of cooking gas prices," he reflected. Following this, the president took a jab at the previous government. Without naming names, he explained that governing is interconnected with decision-making aimed at the well-being of the population. “You need to be careful because many people disguised as investors and managers are actually just selling public assets at rock-bottom prices. The guy doesn't know how to govern, he doesn't have the competence to govern, so he says, 'I'm going to sell.' If he wants to be a salesman, not a ruler, he should find another profession,” he said during the ceremony.
