Interview of Brenda Landwehr by Robert St. Peter, May 5, 2026

Brenda Landwehr sought election to the Kansas Legislature to solve problems. "I've always been one of those people that it's like, put up or shut up. You can only complain so long." So, as she describes it in her 2026 interview, she "jumped in with both feet" to the Legislative Health Academy, learned a lot, and at the end of the day, the participants had a great dialogue. Brenda tackled foster care privatization -- trying to get judges to participate. She chaired the Mental Health Modernization Committee and the Joint Committee on Children's Issues. Child behavioral health issues became a passion for her and she started a pilot program in six districts around Kansas. She describes chairing important committees that dealt with the state budget and Medicaid during her second stint in the Kansas legislature. After 22 years of public service, Landwehr remains knowledgeable about the range health policy issues facing the state. Brenda Landwehr served a total of 22 years in the Kansas House of Representatives in non-consecutive terms representing Wichita districts. She was first elected to represent the 91st District in 1994 and served until January, 2013. After an unsuccessful run for the Kansas Senate, she ran for the District 105 seat in 2016, was successful, and served until January 2025. During her service in the House, Landwehr fought for her principles across a myriad of issues, including health care freedom, a culture of life, tax reform, immigration reform, foster care reform and limited government. She is outspoken and never afraid to tackle difficult issues. At the time of this interview, she and her husband David had been married for 42 years and had three children and seven grandchildren. Together they own a successful business (LT Care Solutions, Inc.) and often volunteer in the community for their church, scouting, and various community boards.
