Developed by director/star Kevin Costner over five years, with a budget of only $22 million, the film won 7 Academy Awards including Best Picture and the Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture - Drama. John Barry composed the Award-winning score, which became a very popular film score. Peter Buffett scored and choreographed the "fire dance" scene. Pope John Paul II once referred to it as among his favorite pieces of music.
