REWILDING Spaces with NATIVE, BIOREGIONAL PLANTS — Ep. 093
While we were traveling throughout Pennsylvania and Delaware, we learned of the work of Mark Brownlee and colleagues over at ArcheWild and WildLawn. Though we were initially intrigued by their work around reestablishing native American chestnuts, we were pleasantly surprised to learn of their extensive and research-based approach to rewilding spaces with native, bioregional species. For Mark and his team—it's all about the genetics—so much so that their team painstakingly collects seed from many different regions around the US—primarily in the eastern United States, germinates it in their greenhouses outside Philadelphia, and then plants and monitors their work across multiple states. We were very impressed with their work that we're now considering doing some experimental planting with them.
