Bite-sized psychometrics: What is psychometrics, and why do we need it?
Psychometrics is the scientific study of how to assess latent human constructs, from personality to intelligence to 5th grade math knowledge to competence in a profession. Tests are used to make millions of decisions every day, from deciding if a 3rd grader knows fractions to whether a physician is qualified to be a brain surgeon. Sound tests make for sound decisions, so we need to invest in making better tests. That is what psychometrics does. We then provide a very high level overview of some of the topics in psychometrics, from test design to standard setting to equating. More detailed resources on these are provided elsewhere.
