HAI PAURA DELLA MORTE? - #galimberti #umbertogalimberti #filosofia #bellezza #morte #paura

In this original reflection, the connection between aesthetics and ethics is not treated as a cliché, but as an ancient thread that runs through all of Western culture. The idea that "beautiful is good" and "ugly is bad" does not arise from a superficial prejudice, but from an original vision in which the world was conceived of as order, harmony, and measure. Galimberti recalls this root, showing that for the Greeks, beauty was not merely what appears, but what is well-formed, what is in balance. And what is in balance is also just. The crucial point is that this unity between aesthetics and ethics has progressively broken down. In *Myths of Our Time*, it emerges that "beauty has been reduced to an image," and when it becomes an image, it loses its connection to truth. It no longer indicates an order, but an effect. This fracture is clearly captured in the video: beauty no longer coincides with goodness, but with what appears desirable. And what is desirable is not necessarily just. Galimberti insists that authentic beauty has a dimension of restraint. It is not excess, not immediate seduction, but a form that holds its own. When this restraint is lost, beauty turns into artifice. In *Psyche and Techne*, we glimpse this transformation: "man no longer inhabits things, he consumes them," and beauty becomes one of the objects of this consumption. A concrete example is the way people are perceived today: external appearance is immediately associated with moral qualities. What is beautiful is perceived as trustworthy, what is ugly as suspect. But this association no longer arises from a harmonious vision of the world, but rather from a conditioned reflex, amplified by the image-driven society. Then there is a more radical element: the loss of depth. When beauty is merely superficial, it reveals nothing. It does not open, it does not orient, it does not transform. Galimberti shows that beauty, in its origins, was a form of truth, something that connected man to the world. Today, however, it often distracts him. The question "what is beauty?" therefore has no definitive answer. It is not just what we like, nor what appears. It is what holds together form and meaning, visible and invisible. When this unity is broken, beauty remains, but loses its strength. #galimberti #umbertogalimberti #philosophy #beauty #aesthetics #ethics #nihilism #technique #society #modernity #criticalthinking #awareness #growth #personalgrowth #psychology #mind #life #truth #existence #humannature #interiority #reflection #over60 #senior #elderly #education #values #time #image #philosophyoflife "Is beauty really good?" “Aesthetics and Ethics: The Lost Bond” “Beauty as Truth” “Why Beauty Deceives” “The Image Society” “Form and Meaning: What Has Changed” “The Value of Measure” “Beautiful and Right: An Ancient Relationship” “When Beauty Loses Meaning” “Truly Understanding What Beauty Is”
